Are you planning to work temporarily in France as part of the organization of the 2024 Olympic and paralympic games in Paris? If so, you may benefit from an income tax relief.

The French Government is considering granting an income tax relief to certain participants to the 2024 Olympic and paralympic games in Paris. The objective is to avoid that you get taxed twice on the income that you earned while working or participating at the games in Paris. You must meet the following requirements to qualify for the tax relief:

  • Your tax home is in a country or territory that hasn’t concluded with the Government of the French Republic a convention for the avoidance of double taxation.

  • You’re temporarily staying in France only to participate or to help organize the 2024 Olympic and paralympic games in Paris.

Amount of the income tax relief

The amount of the tax relief is equal to the income tax that you actually paid abroad on the Olympics and paralympic games related income that you earned in France.
Note: the tax that you paid abroad must have similar characteristics as the French income tax. The amount of the income tax relief must not exceed the French income tax that you owe on the Olympics and paralympic games related income that you derived from France.

Eligible Revenue

Olympics and paralympic games related income that you earned in France in the years 2023 – 2025 would be eligible to the French income tax relief.

Case study: By delegation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Organizing committees for the Olympic games (OCOG) granted you an Olympic identity and accreditation card (OIAC) to the 2024 Games in Paris. That card gives you access to the sites, venues and events placed under the OCOG’s responsibility, so you do your job. Your country of domicile hasn’t yet concluded a convention with France for the avoidance of double taxation. The money that you make between 2023 and 2025 while helping with the organization of the Games may not be subject to income tax in France.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, or Paris 2024, is an upcoming international multisport event. The Games are scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024 in Paris, France.
On September 13, 2017, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) granted to Paris the organization of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (OPG) of 2024. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and the City of Paris signed a formal host city contract that same day.

The French government wants the Paris 2024 summer Olympics to be successful. The EUR295 million that they commit to the Games in 2023 is a testament to their desire to succeed. This amount is allocated as follows:

  • EUR270 million is for the company tasked with building the Olympics infrastructure, la Société de livraison des ouvrages olympiques (SOLIDEO);
  • EUR25 million is to finance the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In addition, the Government set aside EUR11 million for the national program to purchase 400,000 games tickets. Half of this money will be made available in 2023. The tickets are for students and young people with deserving backgrounds, volunteers of sports associations, the disables and their caregivers, French public servants who are assigned to the organization of the Olympics.
