April 18 is Tax Day 2022
In the United States of America, most taxpayers have until April 18th 2022 to prepare and file their federal tax returns for the calendar year 2021. This year Tax Day is April 18 instead of April 15 because of the Emancipation Day holiday in Washington DC, even if you don’t live in Washington DC.
April 19 – Some states are the exception
If you live in Maine or Massachusetts you will have until April 19 to file your federal tax returns for the 2021 tax year. This is because April 18 is the Patriots’ Day holiday in Maine or Massachusetts.
Additional time, same dates
If for some reason you’re not able to file your federal tax returns for the 2021 tax year by theses dates, you may request an additional time. In any case, you’re expected to pay the tax that you believe you owe by these dates.
Hundreds of millions of tax returns and forms are filed every year with the Federal tax administration (IRS). Individual income tax returns represent about two returns out of three filed with the IRS. Most of them are filed between January and April.
